The Denver Broncos have placed second-year running back RJ Harvey (knee) on the short-term injured reserve and he will miss at least four games in the meantime, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Saturday. Harvey popped up on the injury list this week and was ruled out for Week 7 on Friday.
Harvey has been a dynamic player for the Broncos, playing several different positions on offense. Harvey has played out of the wildcat, been an explosive rusher and a reliable pass-catcher through his first few years in the Broncos' offense.
Through the first seven games of 2026, Harvey has rushed 25 times for 87 yards and one touchdown, and caught the second-most passes on the team (25) with the second-most receiving yards (217) behind wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Harvey also has a receiving touchdown, per Pro Football Reference.
The Denver rushing attack has struggled through the first seven games, as rookie running back Jonah Coleman just got off the injured reserve in Week 7, and veteran running back J.K. Dobbins has seen carries cut with Coleman and Harvey in the lineup together. In the meantime, the Broncos called up running back Cody Schrader from the practice squad to back up Coleman and Dobbins.
With Harvey now on IR, Denver could be more aggressive in the pursuit of Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathon Taylor. The Broncos have been linked to Taylor after trade rumors emerged earlier this week, and the Colts are in a full-on fire sale after two big trades this week.
At the soonest, Harvey will be eligible to return to the team for their Dec. 6 game against the Miami Dolphins.
The Broncos are set to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at 2:25 pm.
