With the trade deadline just a few days away, the Pittsburgh Steelers were projected to acquire Los Angeles Chargers star wide receiver Ladd McConkey in a new CBS Sports mock package.
According to a mock trade by CBS Sports' Brian DeArdo, the Steelers would send a 2027 second-round pick and wide receiver Roman Wilson in exchange for McConkey and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
"It's possible that the Steelers wouldn't have to part with Wilson in this scenario, but if the Chargers want a replacement for McConkey, it would likely be Wilson, who had success at Michigan with Jim Harbaugh," DeArdo wrote. "The Chargers also probably don't want to part with McConkey, a former 1,000-yard receiver who is still playing on his rookie contract. However, getting another receiver — in addition to a second-round pick — could be enough for the Chargers to move McConkey."
McConkey, who was drafted by the Chargers in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, has emerged as one of quarterback Justin Herbert's favorite targets on the Chargers' offense, catching 165 passes for 2,224 yards and 14 touchdowns in 38 career games. Although the Chargers sit at a dreadful 0-7 record before the deadline, the team may be hesitant to trade away their top pass catcher when he's still under contract for another year.
The Steelers have been heavily linked to wide receiver trade targets as the November 10 deadline rapidly approaches, but it remains to be seen if the team will take a more modest approach when it comes to adding extra pass catchers to their offense.
