R.J. Mosley injury updates: Arizona WR suffers scary injury vs Texas Tech

One of the biggest, most consequential games of Week 9 of the 2026 college football season had a prolonged stoppage in the second half due to an injury.

R.J. Mosley, a wide receiver for No. 21 Arizona, had to be carted off the field of his team's game against No. 14 Texas Tech late in the third quarter after suffering a knee injury on an eight-yard reception.

The ESPN broadcast of the game noted that the decision was made not to show replays of the injury, speaking to its severity or visually gruesome nature.

The injury occurred with the Wildcats trailing the Red Raiders, 24-23, with 1:27 remaining in the second quarter in a game with significant Big 12 championship implications.

With his team trailing Texas Tech by one late in the third quarter, Mosley caught a short pass from quarterback Noah Fifita on third-and-18 for an eight-yard completion to the Arizona 25-yard line, where he was met with a hard hit by Red Raiders cornerback Amier Boyd.

After the play, Mosley reached for his left knee and remained on the turf, with team medical personnel rushing out to tend to him. As Mosley stayed down, Wildcats coaches and players began gathering around him while the crowd at Texas Tech's Galaxy Stadium fell silent.

On the ESPN broadcast, play-by-play man Dave Pasch noted that the network's production truck opted not to show a replay of the reception and the tackle that resulted in the injury.

After several minutes, Mosley was placed on a cart and driven off the field.

Early in the fourth quarter, ESPN sideline reporter Taylor McGregor said that Mosley was undergoing x-rays on his lower body to determine the nature and severity of the injury.
