Toto Wolff's nine-year-old son, Jack, was involved in a terrifying multi-kart crash on Friday. The incident occurred just one month after the Mercedes CEO's son won his first championship: the IAME Series Italy title in the X30 Under-10 category.
Jack competes mainly across Europe and has just completed his debut season. His first race win came in July. His father, Toto, has been at the helm of Formula 1's Mercedes since 2013, currently serving as team principal and holding a 33.3 per cent stake in the outfit.
The Silver Arrows claimed a record eight successive Constructors' Championships between 2014 and 2021 under his leadership. Jack's mother, Susie, is also a former racing driver who now serves as managing director of F1 Academy.
But both parents would have been left shaken on Friday, as they watched their son compete. The nine-year-old was taking part in Qualifying Heat 3 of the X30 Mini category at the Leopard Circuit in Viterbo, Italy. During the closing lap of the heat, Jack, driving No. 25, was locked in a battle for the lead with Nahyl Elgahoudi.
As the two made contact, their wheels collided and Elgahoudi's kart launched violently up and over the front of Jack's machine, balancing precariously on two wheels before narrowly avoiding a full rollover. Jack was then sent into a spin.

With no escape route, trailing driver Dimitar Uzunov smashed into the almost stationary kart, becoming airborne and flying directly over the cockpit while striking Jack's shoulder.
Reports indicate Jack was treated following the incident but emerged unscathed. He exited the kart unaided and was keen to return to the paddock.
The commentator observed during the crash: "Look at that straight over the top there went... went Uzunov. How Elgahoudi did not flip there, I do not know... and Wolff as well, taking a big hit to the shoulder."
Speaking at a karting event this summer, Toto discussed his son's ambition: "This is where it all starts. Formula 1 is basically this on steroids. Same kind of racing and watching the kids is just a super experience.
"It's important to find the right balance because obviously as a parent you're emotionally involved and it's completely normal. But he's nine years old.
"There are so many small kids and you need to strike the balance right and we try. Sometimes we get it wrong. You have difficult moments and he had some difficult moments.
"But in the end it comes all together, and every little failure is a learning for the future. Just give them time. They're so small, let them enjoy the karting and that's the most important."
