€25m gets player for Newcastle United – Magpies welcomed as destination

€25m will be enough to get Gessime Yassine from RC Strasbourg next summer, should Newcastle United want to make their move.

French club Strasbourg are preparing for a potential future sale of the youngster, who is continuing to impress in Ligue 1.

The 20-year-old is considered the latest rising star at Strasbourg. And he’s justified that status too, with four goals and four assists in nine games in the league this season.

That has already earned him attention. Sport Witness reported at the end of last month that Chelsea, Newcastle, Brighton, Brentford, Sunderland, Everton and Nottingham Forest were all watching carefully.

Their interest was made apparent in a report from Africa Foot. That report contained comments from former Morocco international Salaheddine Bassir. He was advising the winger to consider his options carefully, and perhaps not jump straight into a move to Chelsea.

Transfer advice

The Blues have a special relationship with Strasbourg due to their shared ownership under BlueCo. That has seen several deals between the two sides over the last few years. But Bassir believed that shouldn’t see Yassine jump to Stamford Bridge.

“Choosing the right club can be more important than the transfer fee or the prestige of the jersey,” he told Africa Foot.

“The question isn’t just who wants to sign Gessime, but rather which club can provide the environment and tactical development he needs to reach his full potential.

“The Chelsea name alone doesn’t automatically make it the best choice. Competition for spots on the wings is particularly fierce there. At this stage of his career, Gessime needs consistency, confidence, and playing time to learn and grow.”

He was instead advocating for the likes of Brighton and Newcastle as preferable options at this point in his career.

“If I had to compare Chelsea’s prestige to the opportunities for progression in a club like Brighton, I would seriously consider the second option,” he added.

“If Newcastle foresees a role corresponding to his qualities, this destination could allow him to take a step forward.”

€25m asking price

Newcastle United

The unclear part was how much the youngster could cost. Well, Africa Foot now provide that detail.

They report that Strasbourg have set the conditions for a transfer at €25m. The French club, though, do not intend to sell in the January transfer window.

Their intention is instead to keep the young winger until the end of the season, while establishing the terms of a deal for the summer.

Africa Foot’s information is that Strasbourg would not be opposed to a deal next summer if they were to receive an offer in the region of €25m. That figure reflects their desire to capitalise on the potential of the youngster, whose performances are not going unnoticed.

They can sit comfortably too as Yassine is locked to a deal until 2030, so there is no danger for them on that front presently.

The door for a transfer is very much open, though. The question is whether the likes of Newcastle want to pay the €25m asking price to walk through it.
