Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have called NFL games for 25 seasons. They began their journey in the broadcast booth with FOX Sports. In 2022, they moved to ESPN together to call Monday Night Football. However, that may change soon.

Football fans recently learned that tensions between Buck and Aikman have escalated to alarming levels. Things came to a head during the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills Monday Night Football contest in Week 5, where the veteran broadcasters reportedly got into a heated argument.

Much has been said about this incident and the situation between these two broadcasters. After one recent report, a former NFL quarterback aired his issues with Buck’s reported actions leading to this incident.

Brady Quinn Unhappy With Joe Buck Amid Troy Aikman Tension

On Wednesday, a report came to light that provided more clarity on what’s going on. In May, Buck is said to have gone to ESPN with his agent to hammer out a new contract extension, according to Puck’s Dylan Byers. He did this without Aikman’s knowledge.

Buck eventually signed a new six-year contract, which was announced in September.

This did not sit well with former NFL quarterback Brady Quinn, who appeared on “2 Pros & A Cup of Joe” on Wednesday, where he took issue with Buck’s decision to go into negotiations without informing his broadcast partner.

“At some point, there was a fracture. ESPN is falling out of favor with Troy for whatever reason. And then Joe, behind his back, going and doing the deal without him knowing this. Which, I think, everyone feels pretty upset by that if you were the guy who brought him in the first place,” Quinn said.

According to Byers’ reporting, Buck was told that he may have a new broadcast partner beginning in 2027. That was reportedly not a deterrent for the veteran broadcaster, who “accepted the deal almost immediately.”

Buck has called NFL games for over 30 seasons. He began his broadcasting career as a radio voice for a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1989. In 1994, he made his television debut with FOX Sports, calling MLB and NFL games.

Buck has called multiple Super Bowls and nearly 25 World Series in his illustrious broadcasting career. In 2022, he was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

Aikman, meanwhile, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer. He was the first overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He spent his entire playing career with the Cowboys, winning three Super Bowls.

In 2002, he joined Buck in the FOX Sports booth. Initially, this was a three-man booth with Cris Collinsworth. In 2005, Buck and Aikman became a two-man booth.

These two broadcasters have an extensive history with one another. It’s certainly unfortunate that things may end in this manner. Hopefully, an amicable resolution can be reached. We’ll see how the latest news impacts the broadcast, with their next Monday Night Football broadcast approaching on October 26, featuring the 2-4 Cowboys going up against the 2-4 Philadelphia Eagles.
