Steelers Tie NFL Record in Win over Browns

The Pittsburgh Steelers tied an NFL record with Sunday’s 27-6 win over the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium.

The Steelers have beaten the Browns in Pittsburgh 23 straight times in the regular season. It’s tied for the most consecutive regular-season home wins against a single opponent in NFL history, matching the Green Bay Packers’ 23-game home win streak over the Detroit Lions from 1992 to 2014.

The Steelers have also not been swept by the Browns in a season since 1988. Cleveland could have broken that 38-year streak on Sunday.

Browns players thought things would have been different.

“This is a different team, we’re going out there to get a different result,” Browns edge rusher Jared Verse said earlier this week.

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward echoed Verse’s statement.

“It depends on how you look at it. For me, I think it’s a new game. I don’t look at the history or what happened,” Ward said. “This is two different teams. Different People. We just got to go in, and it’s the same thing, try to go 1-0 this week and get this win. I don’t look at the history of it.”

That certainly wasn’t the case on Sunday. It was a “Browns is the Browns” type of performance. Verse, who has failed to record a sack this season, had only one tackle and one quarterback hit.

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren called out Verse for not backing up his trash talk.

“Yeah, but we didn’t really pay attention to it. You know, some walk, some talk,” Warren said.

Warren ran all over the Browns, rushing for 143 yards on 17 carries (8.4 yards per carry) and one touchdown. Warren’s 143 yards rushing tied his single-game record, which was set in Week 16 last year against the Detroit Lions.

Warren’s best run of the afternoon was a 15-yarder on third-and-13 in the first quarter. Overall, the Steelers rushed for 200 yards on 33 carries (6.1 yards per carry).
