Tottenham Eye £100m Forward: Should De Zerbi Risk A January Move?
Tottenham Hotspur Flag Graphic

Tottenham transfer news: Tottenham’s recovery has given Roberto De Zerbi room to address a problem that still threatens their progress. Three consecutive Premier League victories, capped by a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, ended a 616-day wait for such a run. Following their Marbella training camp, Spurs have looked more settled, and their £380 million summer rebuild is beginning to show signs of cohesion.

However, improved control has not solved their biggest attacking concern. Against Palace, Tottenham registered 34 shots and an expected goals figure of 3.47, yet managed only two goals against ten men. De Zerbi wants his side to dominate possession, press aggressively and create chances through quick combinations. His players are doing much of that, but their finishing still needs considerable work.

That problem places greater responsibility on the forwards. Dominic Solanke remains the first-choice centre-forward following his big-money arrival, although his performances have not consistently delivered the clinical effectiveness Tottenham need. Omar Marmoush offers better movement and versatility across the frontline, but his strengths lie more in linking attacks than leading the line as a traditional striker. Richarlison, meanwhile, has fallen out of the picture.

Consequently, Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi has emerged as an attractive option. CaughtOffside claims Tottenham retain serious interest in the 20-year-old, although a January transfer looks highly unlikely. The French forward scored 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season, but a fractured metatarsal suffered in July required surgery and delayed his return. He has managed just 27 minutes across two substitute appearances in 2026/27, providing an assist during his comeback against Leeds United.

Bournemouth have little reason to negotiate. Kroupi remains contracted until 2030, while the report suggests the Cherries could demand between £80m and £100m. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona have reportedly registered interest too.

Tottenham transfer news: Should De Zerbi push Tottenham into a £100m January gamble?

He shouldn’t. Kroupi’s pace, movement and ability to operate centrally or from wide positions suit De Zerbi’s attacking approach, but his recent surgery makes such an investment difficult to justify. Paying up to £100m for a forward who has barely returned to competitive football would expose Tottenham to considerable financial and sporting risk.

Spurs should give Kroupi more months to demonstrate his fitness while demanding greater efficiency from Solanke and making better use of Marmoush. A summer assessment would provide a clearer picture of his physical condition and Bournemouth’s willingness to negotiate. Tottenham have already invested heavily in De Zerbi’s project, and another expensive signing must address a proven weakness rather than become an expensive gamble based on potential.
