The Dallas Cowboys led the Arizona Cardinals 24-10 in the fourth quarter, but they could not finish the job. Arizona stormed back and completed the comeback in overtime, where Chad Ryland kicked the game-winning field goal to seal a 33-30 victory.
Dallas struggled to control the line of scrimmage throughout the game, but much of the frustration from Cowboys fans was directed at head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Several openly called for Schottenheimer to be fired after the collapse.
The Cardinals’ offense, which ranks 20th on PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, struggled to find a rhythm with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. Gardner Minshew came on in relief and provided a spark, delivering some late-game “Minshew Magic” to help Arizona force overtime and complete the comeback.
Marcus Mosher, host of the “Locked on Cowboys” podcast, had some sharp words to say about the team’s overall effort. Mosher posted online, “You could see it last week. One of the worst-coached teams in the entire league.”
Dave Helman, host of “The Athletic Football Show,” pointed out that the Cowboys have only onewinning streak under Schottenheimer’s leadership. Helman had other things to say, too.
Helman wrote, “The Cowboys have still managed just one win streak through 25 games of Brian Schottenheimer’s tenure as head coach. The NFC East looks as winnable as it will ever reasonably look, the Cowboys aren’t dealing with debilitating injuries, and they’re 3-5. Inexcusable.”
RJ Ochoa, manager and editor-in-chief at Blogging The Boys, did not mince words as he called this loss at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, embarrassing.
Ochoa posted this online: “That is one of the most embarrassing losses in Dallas Cowboys franchise history. Brian Schottenheimer is so in over his head. He is directly responsible for this team’s misgivings against Arizona, this season, and across his entire tenure. They go nowhere with him.”
Ron Harrod Jr., who covers the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks for DLLS Mavs, has already made up his mind about Schottenheimer’s future as Cowboys head coach. Harrod wrote, “Brian Schottenheimer is one of the worst coaches in the NFL. They have to move on after this year.”
Tom Downey, who hosts “Cowboys Report by Chat Sports,” had a very pointed three-word comment after seeing Dallas lose: “FIRE BRIAN SCHOTTENHEIMER”.
Cowboys observer Matt Owen also wants Schottenheimer out as head coach. Owen posted online, “I’m 100% out on Brian Schottenheimer”.
Connor Livesay, who writes about the NFL and the NFL Draft, uses the word “ineptitude” in his comments after seeing the Cowboys let the Cardinals pull off a victory. Livesay headed out to social media and posted, “There isn’t a player you can add to make up for the ineptitude of Brian Schottenheimer.”
But Livesay wasn’t done there. In another post, he wrote, “Brian Schottenheimer is just so so so so poor at his job.”
Nico, who goes by ‘Elite Takes,’ already wants Schottenheimer to not even have time to spend at his desk. He posted online, “Schottenheimer should be dismissed tomorrow morning. Too many unacceptable outings in year 2. We’ve seen enough”.
With the defeat, the Cowboys fall to 3-5 this season and face an uphill battle in the NFC East. The New York Giants have established themselves as front-runners to win the division. What happens with Schottenheimer now? That move is now on Jones to decide.
