The players were told to stay in a hotel for two nights near their Hertfordshire training ground, after losing five of their last six games.

The Sun claims “some of the club’s stars are livid and also baffled that they had to stay away from home both last night and on Tuesday”.

The report added: “The posh Sopwell House hotel is just four miles from their training ground at London Colney which is directly next to Arsenal’s base.

“Watford boss Alessio Dionisi, appointed in June, is under immense pressure and the team faces fellow strugglers Norwich on Saturday before a home game with newly-promoted Lincoln.”

Watford are one place and one point behind the 20th-placed Canaries, and have just one point from their travels this season.

Dionisi is under huge pressure and should Watford’s struggles continue he faces a walk through the same revolving exit door as so many of his predecessors in recent years.
