  • “This individual’s actions did not reflect those values or meet our standards and will not be tolerated,” Texas’ athletics director said

The Texas Longhorns have permanently banned a fan who walked onto the field to flip off Florida players.

The incident was caught on camera after the Longhorns’ 27-24 loss to the Gators at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17. The fan, dressed in Texas merchandise, had access to the field, where he filmed himself flipping off Texas’ opponents with his middle finger and recording their reactions.

The footage was initially shared by Fox 7’s Anthony Geronimo.

The fan was asked by multiple Florida staff members to leave, and at least one of the Gators attempted to confront him but was held back, according to ESPN.

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte addressed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 21, referring to the fan’s conduct as “unacceptable behavior by an individual who had the privilege of field access.”

“We pride ourselves on sportsmanship and treating our opponents with respect. This individual’s actions did not reflect those values or meet our standards and will not be tolerated,” Del Conte continued on Wednesday. “The matter has been addressed internally, and I want to personally apologize to the University of Florida and its entire football program.”

Del Conte added, “Having access to our field comes with a responsibility to represent Texas with class and respect. This individual failed to uphold that responsibility and has been permanently banned from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.”

According to ESPN, the fan was a local resident who does not attend the University of Florida. Del Conte told the outlet he’s unsure of how the fan was given field access.

Next, the Longhorns will host the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
