In a recent appearance on ESPN LA, NBA insider Brian Windhorst gave an update on where things stand with Anthony Davis and the Washington Wizards. Windhorst said despite trade chatter, that the Wizards intend to let things play out with Davis before making any decisions about his future in Washington.
"The Wizards basically said, 'We want to see Anthony Davis play 20 to 30 games, see how he fits with our group, and then revisit whether we want to give him an extension.' Obviously, if he agrees to an extension, he won't be traded. If he doesn't, you'll see his name on the trade market," Windhorst said.
Davis is eligible to extend with Washington at any point. He would have to decline his player option for the 2027-28 season in order to extend in-season. Otherwise, the star big man would have to wait to sign an extension until the offseason.
Windhorst added that if the Wizards are to trade Davis, it's unlikely the Los Angeles Lakers would be involved. The ESPN NBA insider noted that the Lakers don't have the assets to acquire Davis that the Wizards would likely be looking for.
