Ronald Araujo has been one of the Premier League’s signings of the summer after hitting the ground running on loan from Barcelona.

There had been some scepticism amongst Liverpool supporters after seeing the Uruguayan join for the season, but Araujo has been brilliant at right-back, playing with a commitment which has seen him quickly emerge as a fan favourite.

Supporters would love to see the 27-year-old join permanently from Barcelona, and as Liverpool ponder paying the £47m which would see him leave the Catalans for good, Araujo has been speaking about his future before the Reds’ massive clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

Araujo waiting to see if he’ll join Liverpool

After he delivered another two top performances for the Reds this week, there have been reports that Liverpool will consider signing Araujo if his good form can continue throughout the season.

On the evidence seen so far, that would be the right decision, but according to the defender himself, there is still a long way to go before any final verdict is reached.

“I’m very grateful for the love of the people. Very grateful. Truly, thank you,” Araujo said to Sky Sports.

“There’s still a lot of time left, I can’t speak about the future if I don’t know what will happen when they make the decisions, because there’s still a lot of months left. I am trying to enjoy every day, give everything that I can, continue working, continue growing, help the squad so we can win titles, because I strongly believe in the team, we have a great team with experienced players, young players and very talented players.

“I have to keep working and we will see what-happens in the future. Right now you just have to enjoy it.”

Araujo has been hugely complimentary about Liverpool fans during his stay so far, and when asked about how he has settled in at the club, the Uruguay international once again praised the welcome he has received.

“The truth is I am very happy, very happy,” he said. “It all happened very quickly but I’m very happy, very grateful to the people, from the moment I arrived here at the club, they’ve made me feel like one of them, also my teammates, the coaching staff, I’m very grateful, very happy and I enjoy playing football.”

Araujo is aiming to win titles with Liverpool

Whether he sticks around for longer or not, Araujo will certainly be at Liverpool for the remainder of this season at the very least, and it is clear that he is aiming to leave his mark.

Asked about the aims of the club for the current campaign, the No. 33 claimed that it is all about trying to win trophies with the Reds.

“We are convinced we have a great team and we have to compete for all of the titles,” he said.

“A club like Liverpool, with the grandeur it has and all of the trophies it has won, the cups, the Champions Leagues, the Premier League, we have to go for everything and aim for the highest. So, I think that’s the mentality and that’s what we go for.”

If Araujo can contribute to a team which wins something this season, then Liverpool should have no hesitation in pulling the trigger and getting him signed up for the long-term. Clearly, there is a long way to go before then, but he sounds happy, and with supporters delighted with him so far, a permanent transfer should absolutely not be ruled out.
