Four Man Utd players who should ‘escape criticism’ from 4-1 Champions League loss to Como, including Amad

Amad Diallo stood out alongside three other first-team Manchester United players during the shocking 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Michael Carrick watched on from the dugout at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium as Serie A side Como humiliated Manchester United in a thumping victory in Italy.

The 45-year-old United manager suffered another setback in his Old Trafford reign and Michael Carrick is walking a tightrope over his role at the Premier League club.

Following United’s embarrassing defeat to Como, United In Focus has now looked at the Red Devils players who put it ‘all on the line’ in the Champions League clash.

Let's hear your ideas… if Michael Carrick is sacked – Who should replace him?

Who do you want to see as Manchester United manager?

Just seen Nagelsmann would be a leading candidate. Makes sense. He's available and more importantly he is good. But United need a clean-up, kinda like Arsenal. The reason Arteta took so long to win the title is he had to clean that place up

Conte wants a "legacy" role. To rebuild. Fact is, Conte is quality, he is just volatile. If the Execs are scsre to recruit him, that really indicates how weak they are and how they will never transform our glorious club. Howe could also do a job. I u derstand Ashford wanted Howe, but was sacked. Emery is the standout along with Conte.

Fabregas or Nagelsmann, maybe Conte if he agreed to a short term deal

1. Amad Diallo

Amad Diallo climbed off the bench at half-time and replaced Matheus Cunha after the Red Devils trailed Como 1-0 in the match. The 24-year-old Ivorian winger could not be faulted for his effort in the second half, as Amad’s desire to fight for United was on full display.

Amad’s performance was mainly in vain due to the scoreline on Wednesday evening, but he was able to pick up an assist to prove that he deserves to hold his head up high. The Ivory Coast international was quite easily one of the standout players from a dizzying result.

2. Joshua Zirkzee

Speaking of Amad, Joshua Zirkzee was the man to ensure that the Ivorian attacker secured an assist. Joshua Zirkzee produced a superb finish deep in injury time and VAR did not chalk off his effort at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium.

While it was not a mind-blowing performance for Zirkzee, the 25-year-old Dutch forward already had expectations at an all-time low after he replaced Bruno Fernandes in the second half. The fact that Zirkzee scored and had more of a direct impact than United captain Bruno Fernandes did spoke volumes.

3. Harry Amass

United fans have been screaming for Harry Amass to have more opportunities this season and the 19-year-old replaced Matthijs de Ligt in the second half. However, Harry Amass was essentially thrown to the lions after the Red Devils left-back came on while United trailed Como 4-0.

It was embarrassing for Michael Carrick not to put more faith in Amass to start the match and his cameo felt like the Red Devils boss was out of ideas. Either way, Amass does not deserve any kind of major criticism after he was tossed right into the deep end of the clash.

4. Shea Lacey

Just like Harry Amass, Shea Lacey shared the same energy in the second half and perfectly captured the ethos of the United youth academy. Shea Lacey came off the bench and replaced Bryan Mbeumo in the dying stages of the match and the 19-year-old Liverpool-born winger did what needed to be done.

Lacey benefited from the United first-team minutes under the circumstances and showed a willingness to put it all on the line before the full-time whistle. Kudos to Lacey for stepping up and trying to deliver where others had let United fans down.
