It may not be long before Manchester United’s search for a new manager begins.
Michael Carrick hasn’t got to grips with the job since being made the permanent manager of Manchester United, and, sadly, it feels like he could soon be served his P45.
As you can imagine, United are already being linked with a number of different managers, and one interesting name that has re-emerged is Julian Nagelsmann.
Nagelsmann has been linked to United before, and with the 39-year-old currently out of work, now could be an opportune time to finally make the move to Old Trafford.
Interestingly, Nagelsmann already has two supporters within the United dressing room.
Who do you want to see as Manchester United manager?
Not a fan, he hasn’t been great in his last like 2/3 jobs
Anyone saying Conte… do you not remember how things ended at Spurs? And how he causes problems everywhere he goes? He also only stays for about 2 years, United need stability!
Both Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have played under Julian Nagelsmann before at Bayern Munich.
Nagelsmann was actually the coach who signed both players, and upon joining the German giants, both De Ligt and Mazraoui had good things to say about the manager.
“I was very impressed that the entire Bayern management made me feel from the very beginning that the club really wanted me. Everything just clicked. Julian Nagelsmann is also a coach who has proven that he understands how to develop young players well,” said de Ligt, via Sport1.
“FC Bayern’s attacking style of play definitely suits me and was indeed one of the reasons for my decision to move to Munich. Bayern plays a technically advanced style of football with extreme pressing. That matches my strengths and my understanding of the game.”
Meanwhile, Mazraoui noted that the German’s ideas really resonated with him, and that he had a fantastic feeling when he joined his team.
“I was impressed by the way Julian Nagelsmann, Hasan Salihamidžić, Marco Neppe and Oliver Kahn spoke to me. I could immediately see something in their ideas. When the coach told me what he expected from me and how he imagined me in the team, it was a kind of visualisation for me. It was the best feeling you can have,” he explained, via Bavarian Football Works.
Unfortunately, in the end, things didn’t work out for Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich as he was sacked less than a year after signing Mazraoui and De Ligt, but De Ligt did have a fantastic record under the former Bayern boss.
| Competition | Appearances | Wins | Draws | Defeats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bundesliga | 22 | 13 | 6 | 3 |
| Champions League | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 |
| DFB-Pokal | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| Franz Beckenbauer Supercup | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Matthijs De Ligt’s record under Julian Nagelsmann | 31 | 22 | 6 | 3 |
Unfortunately, the pressure at Bayern Munich is so high that a handful of defeats can cost you your job, and Nagelsmann unfortunately suffered for that.
De Ligt could well reunite with his former manager at Old Trafford, and they will be hoping to continue what was an impressive winning record at Bayern.
