Sky Sports were forced into an apology just moments after Fleetwood Town stunned Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The League Two outfit dumped out the Premier League champions on penalties in what was one of the biggest shocks in the competition's history.
Conor Haughey netted the winning spot-kick for the home side, but during an interview with Sky Sports, the Northern Irishman swore. It forced a double apology from the pitch-side reporter, while studio presenter Pien Meulensteen also apologised for the foul language.
When asked what was going through his mind while taking the winning penalty, Haughey replied: "Dunno, just pick my spot and put it in it. In the corner and just run like ****."
The reporter immediately said sorry for the language, with Haughey himself apologising for the slip of the tongue. When asked how his emotions were, the 19-year-old added: "Ahhhh, I'm not even listening to be fair. Just a mad night."
Haughey quickly returned to the celebrations, leaving veteran goalkeeper Jay Lynch to pick up the pieces. Lynch saved Bruno Guimaraes' spot-kick and made a string of crucial stops during the match to give Fleetwood the biggest night in their history.
He told Sky Sports: "My voice has gone from organising the defence. The whole team throughout the game was magnificent. To beat the English champions - credit to these lads. We took heart from Grimsby beating Man Utd last year. We kind of compared it.
"A typical night in Fleetwood. We were expecting a storm, we knew the conditions would be horrible, so we thought it might go in our favour. Amazing for the club, the town. Honestly it means everything to everyone."
It's another miserable night in this competition for Arsenal, whose last League Cup triumph came in 1993. There was a double whammy for Mikel Arteta, as Max Dowman was sent off just five minutes from time for kicking out at an opponent.
Arteta looked furious with the teenager as he trudged off the pitch, and appeared to say some stern words to the 16-year-old. When quizzed on what it was he said to Dowman, Arteta replied: "Something that we discussed already before the match."
While on their exit as a whole, he said: "Congratulations to Fleetwood for going through to the next round. The manner that they have done it, and for us a very sad day.
"There is nothing to criticise the players for their attitude, their application. The determination - you could see that was there from the start. Even with 10 men, we conceded a really poor goal to start with that gave them some momentum."
