‘Tyler Kolek Just Rang His Karma Bell,’ ‘Who Is This Guy?’ — Knicks Guard Gets Dragged for Calling Taylor Swift ‘Performative,’ ‘Fakest Celebrity Fan’

Tyler Kolek’s Taylor Swift answer on an NBA 2K stream sparks criticism as fans push back on the Knicks guard’s comments.

New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek named Taylor Swift when asked to identify the “fakest celebrity fan” he had seen courtside. His answer, given during an NBA 2K stream with a teammate, drew criticism after the clip circulated Thursday.

Swift attended two games during New York’s historic run to the 2026 NBA title, putting her courtside for some of the team’s biggest moments.

Tyler Kolek Catches Flak Over Taylor Swift Dig

Kolek appeared on the stream with fellow Knicks guard Miles “Deuce” McBride, who also weighed in on the question.

The former answered, “Maybe Taylor Swift? I don’t know if I’ve seen her at any other games.”

McBride agreed, saying, “I would agree. Swifties not gonna like that answer.”

Kolek continued, “I guess she’s got a lot going on, so she can’t come all the time, but it’s a little performative.”

The “Anti-Hero” singer attended Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena with her then-fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, on May 23. She was also at Madison Square Garden on June 10 for Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.

Podcaster Kelly Keegs was among those who reacted to the comments.

“Well, there it is. Tyler Kolek just rang his Karma bell. No one can save him now,” Keegs wrote.

“Who is this guy?” another viewer asked.

Kolek did not play in Game 4, the night the pop star attended, as the Knicks rallied from 29 points down to beat the Spurs 107-106.

“I mean you weren’t on the court so she wasn’t cheering for you anyway,” one fan remarked.

The 25-year-old also watched from the sideline in Game 5 on June 13, when New York beat San Antonio 94-90 to clinch the championship, three nights after Swift’s visit to MSG.

“If there’s one thing Taylor and Tyler have in common is that they were both sitting courtside during the Finals,” another user quipped.

The “Cruel Summer” singer’s appearances during the title run were not her first connection to the team. In a 2014 interview with TIME, Swift said she had developed “this sort of love of the Knicks” and recalled performing in MSG’s kids talent competition at halftime when she was 12 or 13.

“They were babies when she was singing during the Knicks halftime show,” one response read.

The discussion extended beyond Kolek and McBride.

“Swifties, you can stop larping for the Knicks now,” a commenter posted.

Kolek has since returned to his reserve role for the defending champions. His most recent appearance came Wednesday in a 135-105 win over the Chicago Bulls at MSG, where he was one of nine New York players to come off the bench.

The third-year guard played 11 minutes and led the Knicks with 5 assists and no turnovers. He did not attempt a shot in the victory, which brought New York’s record to 4-4.
