Aston Villa star reserved compliment on his boss for his new ideas after their win over Manchester City.
Aston Villa carries on their positive trend while taking on the league leader, Manchester City. They picked up a 2-1 win over The Cityzens with Nicolas Jackson as the protagonist. He bagged a brace, which was enough to give a dent on Erling Haaland and Co’s unbeaten record in the league this season.
Their victory this afternoon is also their first win at home, marking a distinguished note this season by beating the league leader. One of Villa stars, Matty Cash, shared his view on the result, praising his boss on his tactics in the game, as reported in the official club site, avfc.co.uk.
“He’s always got a new plan for something. He’s always coming up with new ideas. When you play against top teams, you have to adapt, and today I thought we did that really well.”
Cash underlined how Emery gave him a task to face off Manchester City’s explosive winger, Jeremy Doku. The Poland international seemed to have done the job he was tasked.
“The manager gives us tasks and stuff, but I think you have to take responsibility on the pitch yourself. He’s on the sideline – he can’t be doing it for you on the pitch. I do a lot of work on wingers and how I can stop them.
“Obviously, Doku is a good one-v-one dribbler and for me as a full-back, I like to get aggressive. It makes it difficult for them. I thought I did it well, and onto the next one. Bouba (Kamara) comes in and helps me cover as well. “
Based on the data in Whoscored, Cash was rated 7.0 for that game. He played the full 90 minutes, made 46 touches and one key pass. Enzo Maresca’s men who dominated the game did force Villa to sit rather deep. Emery employed a 4-4-2 formation in the defensive phase and did limit the right back to make an overlapping run.
The former Nottingham Forest man contributed well at the backline by making eight tackles, one interception, two clearances, blocking shots twice plus making four fouls. He made 22 passes, one cross and one accurate long ball.
Such did help nullify Jeremy Doku. The Belgian winger did create three shots and three crosses but none of them was accurate. He did manage to send through the ball four times but only two of which were accurate. As a result, there was less threat from the winger, although Josko Gvardiol was able to run into the box and stroke the ball on target but denied by Zion Suzuki in the second half. It was one of the six saves in the game by the Japanese shot stopper.
