Rangers fan who kicked Celtic supporter faces jail

Jamie Cameron, 28, struck the unknown male opposition supporter on the body on March 8 2026.

Rangers hosted Celtic in the tie which the visitors won on penalty kicks.

Glasgow Sheriff Court was told today that both sets of fans entered the pitch and caused disorder.

A CCTV review took place and an image of Cameron, of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, was released to the public from which he was identified.

Prosecutor Abbas Ali said: “Cameron climbed over advertising boards, ran out on to the pitch in the direction of opposition fans.

“He gestured towards the fans, putting his arms out to his side.

“Cameron ran towards the police cordon towards the opposition fans, jumping and kicking the unknown man, causing him to fall to the ground.”

He went on to gesticulate by putting his arms out before he ran back to the Rangers support. He was later arrested.

Six minutes of CCTV footage of Cameron’s actions were played to the court which included from match broadcaster Premier Sports.

Sheriff Louise Arrol KC asked: “He came right across the entire pitch?”

Mr Ali replied: “Yes.”

Phone camera footage of the incident went viral after the match.

Rangers ultras the Union Bears also printed a limited run of t-shirts for sale for £20 showing Cameron carrying out the attack.

The group claimed all profits from the sales would go towards legal proceedings for those involved.

Dad of three Cameron pleaded guilty today to breach of the peace and assault.

It was revealed that Cameron has one previous conviction for housebreaking as a 17-year-old.

Frances Taylor, defending, told the court: "He is almost a first offender and custody might be a likely outcome.

"He has nothing else outstanding before the court.

"He is disgusted by his behaviour and has taken the decision to plead guilty.

"My client has been the captain of his football team for the last six years.

"He got caught up in the moment and has full remorse for what he has done and will be punished for it."

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Arrol who granted Cameron bail meantime.

The sheriff told him: “You ran across the pitch at a heated football game and kicked a man on the body, almost reaching the away fans.

“That is a serious disturbance and you will know that you passed the custodial threshold. Prepare for custody.”
