Chelsea youth team humiliated by Estonian side featuring 14-year-old despite ‘Moroccan Messi’ making instant impact

CHELSEA’S Moroccan Messi made an instant impact – but could not stop the Blues’ kids suffering European humiliation.

Ibrahim Rabbaj, 17, the diminutive winger compared to Argentina legend Lionel Messi, scored barely a minute after his half-time introduction to restore the Blues’ lead against Estonia’s Flora Tallinn.

Yet the visitors rallied to beat their Premier League opponents 3-2 and send Chelsea crashing out of the Uefa Youth League 5-4 on aggregate.

Blues manager Xabi Alonso, star player Cole Palmer and legendary captain John Terry were all watching as Flora sprang a shock to match Fleetwood’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal.

A number of the Estonian players – including 14-YEAR-OLD Denis Zotov – have senior experience in their country’s top tier.

And by the end it felt like men against boys as Zotov won the penalty from which Flora first-team star Sander Alamaa scored the winner – his fourth strike across the two legs.

Chelsea are absent from all senior European competition this season after the disastrous 2025-6 campaign.

Now the Blues’ Under-19 side has fallen at the first hurdle of their bid to reach the knockout stages of the youth equivalent of the Champions League.

Harry Hudson’s Blues were hot favourites to go through to the next round after having two players sent off in the 2-2 first-leg draw in Tallinn.

But they followed up that ill-disciplined display with a lacklustre home performance – despite a brilliant start.

Winger Mathis Eboue, son of former Arsenal star Emmanuel, scored after just a minute and a half.

Released by Chizzy Ezenwata’s header, Eboue, 18, stood his man up, took a touch out of his feet and hit a firm left-foot shot across the Flora goalkeeper and into the net.

But a terrible mistake by Blues centre back Alfie Osborne gifted Flora a 17th-minute equaliser.

Osborne failed to deal with a long clearance and was robbed by Alamaa, who beat home goalkeeper Freddy Bernal.

Chelsea were mediocre for the rest of the half and boss Hudson took action.

Off came Osborne and on came Rabbaj into a more conventional 4-2-3-1 formation.

Straightaway, a fine pass by Reggie Watson, 16, son of Wigan FA Cup final hero Ben, found Eboue on the left.

His cross was met by Rabbaj with what may well have been his first touch.

But again Chelsea were sloppy and allowed Flora to equalise. This time they failed to switch on at a throw-in and poor defending allowed Alamaa to cross for an unmarked Marten Kukkonen to make it 2-2.

With just under 15 minutes left, Blues captain Olutayo Subuloye fouled Zotov in the box. Up stepped Alamaa, 18, to bury the spotkick.

Hudson threw on attacking players and Andrew Pennie had an effort cleared off the line.

But Chelsea could not stop Flora claiming a famous win.

In the restructured Uefa Youth League, Under-19 teams from all 36 clubs in senior Champions League compete in a league format.

The top 22 youth sides go through to the knockout stages.

Meanwhile domestic youth champions from other leagues compete to be one of the 10 teams to join them in the last 32.

Estonian winners Flora beat HK, of the Faeroe Islands, 7-1 in the first round.

Chelsea, as winners of the Premier League Under-18 title last season, went straight into the second round.

And straight out of the competition after deservedly being beaten by Flora.
