Giants' John Harbaugh shares secret behind his post-bye week success

The New York Giants will head into their bye week with a 4-2-1 record, a game and a half ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, who are 3-4 after beating the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

On Monday, during his Zoom call with the media, head coach John Harbaugh outlined what the next two weeks will entail. Their next game is Sunday, November 8 against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

"We'll try to see where we're at, things we can improve upon," he said. "The guys are in today, film review, looking at the game, also getting a workout type of work, certain type of a workout, and we'll be in tomorrow again. We're going to have a developmental; we call it a keep-ready practice, stay-ready practice, keep-ready, stay-ready practice, also.

"We'll have that in kind of late morning tomorrow, around another lift, and we'll have a team meeting tomorrow, and then the guys will be away. We'll take advantage of that as much as we can; we have five full days plus a little bit for them to rest, recover, all three phases, you know, mind, spirit, body. And then we'll be back Monday afternoon to start on the Eagles."

Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens for 18 seasons, was 15-3 after bye weeks, a testament to his command of the team. He was asked if there is any secret formula to being so successful after bye weeks.

"No, not that I'm aware of," he said. "I think we just come back and play really well the week after the bye. That's the secret formula: Play good football."

And that is what they did in their 27-21 overtime victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. Harbaugh said it was his team's best game to date.

"Just so much contribution from all three phases and different players, all the different positions stepping up when they had to, players making plays, executing technique," Harbaugh said. "I think it was our best execution game after watching the tape across the board. Certainly many things that we need to improve upon that we'll be very focused on going forward because we have to keep getting better, but this was our best all-around well-played football game as a team And that's the players, that's what the players do, they did a great job."

They'll get two weeks to heal up and get ready for their final ten games of the season -- five at home and five on the road.
