Player-manager Dan Flack hailed a superb all-round performance from his Bourne Town side as they wrote their names into club folklore on Saturday.
The Wakes were 1-0 home winners over Banbury United at the JJ Mac Stadium to book their place in the second round proper of the FA Trophy for the first time in the club's history.
Dan Forbes scored the decisive goal early on to help set Bourne on their way to a memorable win over their higher level Southern League Premier Division Central visitors.
Flack commented: "I said to the boys before the game that, although we've been on a bad run, they can be history makers at this club.
"They can go down in the history books when people look back in 20 or 30 years time and I thought everyone was superb.
"I thought we deserved the win because of the way which we worked and kept our shape after scoring an unbelievable goal in terms of how we worked it."
Bourne had gone into the Trophy tie after picking up just one point from their previous five games in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division.
Flack added: "I was really pleased with the win but more importantly the performance that we put in.
"We've had a tough few weeks and we have been searching for answers and looking at ourselves in terms of what we could do.
"This just goes to show what we can do when people apply themselves, stick to a plan and be hard to beat."
Flack had thrust himself into the starting line-up to bring experience a young Wakes side which was missing Brad Marshall and Michael Bostwick due to injury with recent signing Callum Milne being cup-tied.
He explained: "We have been conceding a lot of goals recently so I thought that I would bring that bit of experience because we've got some young lads in there.
"It was just a case of talking them through it and telling them where to put the ball in the right areas. It obviously worked but that was because everyone was just superb."
Bourne return to Northern Premier League action on Tuesday night with a trip to face a Basford United side who are four points above them in the standings.
Flack is now calling on his charges to repeat their cup heroics in the league as they aim to climb out of the relegation zone.
He said: "Banbury are a good side and we can't just keep producing these performances in the cup games.
"That's the thing for us now because we need to work hard in every game which are basics of football.
"We haven't done that in some of the league games recently and that's where the hammerings have come from.
"We've shown we're a good side and what we can do when we apply ourselves and work hard as a team but we can't just do it for these big games."
