Paris Saint-Germain may not use the January transfer window in order to source a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who may not play again this season, having suffered an ACL injury.
Kvaratskhelia suffered the injury during the 4-2 win over Barcelona on Tuesday. The diagnosis was revealed on Wednesday. The Georgian may not feature again this season.
PSG spent the summer adding strength and depth to their forward line. Whilst there were departures (Bradley Barcola, Goncalo Ramos, Lee Kang-in), the likes of Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres, and Mika Godts all arrived. The latter is the most like-for-like replacement for Kvaratskhelia, although he has struggled since making the move from Ajax.
But Luis Enrique is likely to lean on the options at his disposal, rather than dipping into the market in January. “No injury means that we have to sign more players,” said the PSG manager on Saturday. “At the start of the season, I said that we could handle anything, even if there were serious injuries.”
The Spaniard did caveat his statement, however: “We continue to listen to opportunities. That is a possibility that we have”.
