5 key numbers from Iowa football's 13-10 loss to Minnesota

For a moment or two during Iowa's Oct. 24 game at Minnesota, the Hawkeyes appeared to be in position for another dramatic fourth-quarter victory. Was a repeat of the victory at Michigan in the cards?

A 98-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter tied the score at 10-10. That was before the Golden Gophers drove downfield and reclaimed the Floyd of Rosedale trophy with a 46-yard field goal.

Luke Drzewiecki's kick gave Minnesota a 13-10 victory. The Gophers have now beaten three ranked teams this season.

Here are five key numbers from Iowa's loss.

57 + 37: yards on passes from Hank Brown to Tony Diaz and Reece Vander Zee on fourth-quarter TD drive

Two numbers for the price of one, and starting with a positive. This was the drive that changed the game for Iowa and brought some life back to the offense. The Hawkeyes were pinned down on their own 2-yard line to start the drive with 5:44 left in the game.

Brown first completed a 57-yard pass to Diaz to move the chains, then found Vander Zee for a 37-yard pass for the score. It was a four-play, 98-yard drive that took less than two minutes to tie the game.

32: distance on Caden Buhr's field goal

Buhr, who was listed as a game-time decision in the pregame injury report, kicked a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter after the Hawkeyes went down 3-0 early.

On Iowa's first drive of the game, Boston Everitt's punt was blocked to give Minnesota the ball on Iowa's 13, which resulted in Minnesota's field goal.

3: interceptions thrown by Iowa QBs

Both Brown and Hecklinski threw picks. Hecklinski was intercepted on the 2-yard line in the first quarter. Brown's first interception came while the pocket was collapsing, and Minnesota's TJ Bush Jr. snatched the ball from Brown's hand in the dying seconds of the first half.

The second pick for Brown came in the fourth quarter, on a pass that was in and out of Vander Zee's hands.

4: fumbles for Iowa

Iowa recovered three of its fumbles to avoid trouble, but lost one of them.

Braeden Jackson fumbled the ball after catching a 12-yard pass. Minnesota defender Aidan Gousby slammed his shoulder into the ball to knock it loose. The Gophers recovered.

209: total yards for Minnesota

The Hawkeye defense played well, but couldn't earn the win. It was all defense for a majority of the game.

Iowa's Zach Lutmer led the defense with 11 tackles. Cam Buffington had 10.

Luke Gaffney, Kamari Brown and Will Hubert all recorded sacks.

Iowa finished with 288 total yards, with 198 through the air and 90 on the ground.
