‘Not Enough,’ ‘This Deserves a Suspension’ — NFL Fans Get Vocal As League Fines Ravens LB $35,822 for Hits on Josh Allen, D.J. Moore

The Buffalo Bills’ opening drive against the Baltimore Ravens ended with Josh Allen in the end zone. But it also cost Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith $35,822 in fines before the Bills had even kicked the extra point.

The NFL fined Smith $17,911 for hitting a defenseless D.J. Moore and another $17,911 for a facemask on Allen. Both incidents happened on the same drive, but some fans argued that a fine wasn’t enough and wanted the league to suspend Smith.

NFL Fans Call for Harsher Discipline After Roquan Smith’s Hits

The hit on Moore came first. Allen found tight end Dalton Kincaid for seven yards on third-and-six to move the chains, while Smith made contact with Moore away from the ball. Moore was crossing the middle of the field as Allen threw elsewhere, making him a defenseless player under the NFL’s rules.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero shared a video of the scoring play, describing Smith as “twisting Josh Allen’s head on this TD.” Neither incident drew a flag during Buffalo’s 36-10 win.

Smith’s latest fine also follows a previous facemask violation, for which the NFL fined him $11,941 in Week 2, nearly $6,000 less than the penalty for the hit on Allen.

One fan felt the league should have gone further. “Not enough of a punishment,”they wrote.

Another fan argued that a fine wouldn’t be enough to change Smith’s behavior, especially given his NFL salary.

“This deserves a suspension, otherwise he’s gonna keep doing it! What is 18 grand to a player who’s making millions?!?! Come on, NFL, get it right,”they wrote.

“Imagine fining a guy basically a snap’s worth of pay when he could have broken [Allen’s] neck,” another remarked.

“He’s lucky it’s not way more,”one user added.

Another fan went a step further and called for a suspension. “Should be suspended. Dude plays dirty,”they wrote.

One viewer also brought up Baltimore’s Thursday game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, claiming Smith had made similar contact in that matchup.

“Wait until they review the game against the Jags from Thursday. He did it again in that game. He is going to seriously injure a player,”the viewer wrote.

Smith ranks No. 12 among linebackers with a PFN LB Impact Score of 84.7, though he’ll need to be a touch careful going forward. Another flagrant or dangerous hit could leave the league with little choice but to consider a suspension.
