England put on a fine display to blow Australia away 45-22 at Twickenham. It was a scoreline and performance the hosts, and their coach Steve Borthwick needed.

So who played well at Twickenham, and who failed to impress? Rate each player with our voting tool, and have your say in the comments.

England

George Furbank

Began quietly but grew in stature and influence; instrumental in Ollie Chessum’s try, where his mis-pass was on the money. The neck-roll was a shame.

Tommy Freeman

Beaten in the air several times but he put Jack Van Poortvliet in beautifully. Had a try-scoring chance and, although it was tough, it was there for the taking.

Henry Slade

Borthwick loves a “glue” player and actually Slade looked exactly that, often linking delightfully in transition. Defended with intelligence and aggression.

Seb Atkinson

The jury is still out as to whether he will be world class but he is getting better with every match; his distribution is improving and he is not shy of whacking a ball-carrier.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso

Not quite “hot and cold” but before his injury he was often the most lethal runner on the field, while also one of the most calamitous.

Fin Smith

The playmaker might not have caught the eye, but that should be seen as a positive. His axis with Atkinson looked fluid and, at times, the distribution was seamless.

Jack van Poortvliet

Kept Australia interested around the fringes and occasionally broke free, but that interception on the stroke of half-time was careless.

Fin Baxter

A gamble to start the loosehead after only 96 minutes of rugby in the past 10 months, but there were some chunky carries as well as parity at the scrum.

Jamie George

Backs against the wall, the leaders had to stand up – and George did. A squint throw aside, this was one of his most influential Test displays in a while.

Joe Heyes

Never quite got to grips with the pedantic French scrum officiating, but he defended thunderously. And, when talking about it in the bar, his try will have come from 30 metres out.

Maro Itoje

Bar one needless ruck penalty, this was a true captain’s showing: marauding in defence, energy and dynamism personified, and a menace at the breakdown.

Alex Coles

Was not alone in conceding a gratuitous breakdown penalty, but otherwise one of the Prem’s form players was a bundle of effervescence. Scrummaging at blindside, his pace is invaluable.

Ollie Chessum

Scrummaged in the row and was a useful, regular option in the line-out. His carrying out wide was incredibly valuable to England and he took his try coolly.

Ben Curry

It was his forward pass which saw Feyi-Waboso’s early score ruled out, but the openside more than made up for that with his assiduousness at the breakdown.

Ben Earl

Might have hoped for greater reward from the number of times he carried but the work-rate and willingness deserves plaudits; as does the defence.

Replacements

Pollock can play on the wing! And did it look like Genge had had a serious falling-out with the coach? What an impact.
