Former Salford City manager Karl Robinson is in the running for the Bromley job and could be joined in the dugout by a Premier League icon.
Daily Mail Sport understands that former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe, most recently Woking manager, has been discussed as a potential assistant should Robinson be appointed to fill the vacancy left by Andy Woodman, who was dismissed last month.
Defoe left Woking after less than four months following a breakdown in his relationship with the club's director of football.
His departure came in dramatic circumstances, failing to turn up for training on the eve of the new season before calling the club to say he would not be returning.
Robinson previously tried to sign Defoe on a free transfer after he left Scottish club Rangers while Oxford United manager.
Defoe played 496 Premier League games, spread across six clubs, scoring 163 goals.
He is Tottenham's seventh-highest all-time goalscorer and ranks 10th on the Premier League's all-time scoring list.
Having failed to land Defoe as a player, Robinson could yet get his man in management.
Bromley have been assessing several candidates as their managerial search enters its second week.
They have already held talks with Chelsea legend Ashley Cole, who took charge of Serie B club Cesena for three months at the end of last season, while former Oxford United boss Matt Bloomfield is in the frame. Cole was previously assistant manager of England Under-21s.
The Ravens sit bottom of League One and are winless in six matches.
Woodman was sacked after five years in charge, having led Bromley from the National League to League One, with just two wins in ten matches in their maiden season in the third tier.
Speaking on the Inside the 72 podcast this week, Woodman said: 'You have to speak honestly. The easiest way I can sum this up is that when I got the job at Bromley, my first game was Wealdstone and my last game in the league was Leicester.
'I'm pretty disappointed, pretty upset and feel pretty misled in numerous ways and situations.
'To give five and a half years of my life to a club and a fan base that I really loved and bought into and gave everything I had and be told in no less than four minutes, thanks, that was it really.
'There's no other way of dressing this up. I'm disappointed but that's football as we know it. Unfortunately, it never surprises me.'
Byron Webster, who made 173 appearances in six years at Bromley, is currently in interim charge at the south-east London club.
Away from footballing matters, former Everton striker and cult hero Victor Anichebe is in the final stages of completing a takeover at Bromley. Anichebe is understood to be involved in the search for a new manager.
