Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi is reportedly set to leave the Sharks with immediate effect ahead of a shock return to the Stormers.
According to News24, the double World Cup winner will join the Cape Town side on Wednesday, October 28.
The 35-year-old's future in Durban had already been thrown into doubt following an alleged breach of team rules.
As RUCK reported earlier this month, Mbonambi was facing the possible termination of his contract following a lengthy disciplinary process.
He had also been left out of training and matchday squads despite reportedly being fit to play.
The alleged incident took place during a pre-season team-building trip, where several Sharks players reportedly broke team rules.
Head coach JP Pietersen previously refused to discuss Mbonambi's absence.
"Bongi is obviously not available. There is no comment on Bongi."
Now, the veteran appears set for a fresh start at his former club.
Mbonambi spent six seasons with the Stormers before joining the Sharks in 2021.
His return would provide a huge boost for the Cape Town side, who are currently dealing with an injury crisis at hooker.
The move could also help revive his Springboks hopes ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Neither club has officially confirmed the transfer or the terms of his departure.
However, News24 reports that Mbonambi is expected to link up with the Stormers this week.
