Lewis Hamilton ignited the Mexico City circuit with a stunning qualifying performance, clinching his inaugural pole position for Ferrari at the 2026 Mexican Grand Prix. This electrifying achievement marks a pivotal moment for the seven-time world champion as he outpaced an elite field on the challenging Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez track.

Hamilton secured pole with a commanding lap that put him ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell, who qualified second, and Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who settled for the third spot on the grid. The top five was rounded out by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in fourth and Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli in fifth, highlighting a fiercely competitive front pack across three manufacturers.

The qualifying session saw McLaren’s Lando Norris take sixth, while Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar and Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson completed the top eight. Arvid Lindblad of Racing Bulls and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten, demonstrating a mix of seasoned racers and emerging talent shaping the grid.

Notably, Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg qualified 11th, narrowly missing out on Q3, with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri occupying 12th and 13th positions respectively. The midfield battles promise intensity with Haas’s Ollie Bearman and Williams’s Carlos Sainz starting deeper in the pack, at 15th and 16th.

Williams’s Alex Albon was 17th, ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, who qualified 18th and 20th respectively. Haas’s Ryo Hirakawa slotted in at 19th, while Cadillac’s Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas anchored the back of the grid in 21st and 22nd.

Hamilton’s pole lap not only cements his resurgence with Ferrari but also reshapes the championship dynamics as the season progresses. His performance sends a clear message to rivals, signaling that the former champion is a formidable contender once again. The battle for race victory will undoubtedly intensify with Mercedes and Red Bull drivers poised to challenge the Scuderia’s front-row dominance.

With the grid now set, all eyes will be on Hamilton and Ferrari to translate this qualifying pace into race success on Mexican soil. The stage is perfectly set for a dramatic showdown under the floodlights in Mexico City.
