Yesterday, the news broke that Goncalo Ramos would miss AC Milan’s game against Bournemouth and Ruben Amorim is not turning to the obvious.
Last week, in Austria, Amorim offered Francesco Camarda his first start of the season. It was a chance for the youngster to prove himself and show signs that he could be the number two to Ramos. After all, the Portuguese coach had stated that was the plan.
However, he didn’t shine. Instead, the goals came from Alphadjo Cisse and then Ramos, who rounded off the scoring for Milan. Unfortunately, the youngster’s performance was not memorable; if it was, it was for the wrong reasons.
Nevertheless, with Ramos now out for tonight’s game, the expectation would be that he’d start. Though it’s not the case.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, an Italian will lead the line, but it’s going to be Alphadjo Cisse. After Ramos’ discomfort in training, he’ll have an MRI today to identify the issue. There’s a chance Amorim may be left without his striker for the rest of the month if fears of a muscle injury come true.
For tonight, then, the opportunity will be given to Cisse in a central role. He’s scored a goal every 72 minutes this season and after being ‘spared’ on Sunday, he’ll lead the team forward in the Europa League.
Against Salzburg, he showed the quality of a ‘penalty-box striker’, which Camarda didn’t really. Outside of him will be Diego Moreira and Omari Hutchinson – who will hope to shine in England – so Cisse will be used as something of a ‘battering ram’.
It’s a bold plan, but Amorim is confident it can work. For Camarda, it’s not only the Azzurrini who have placed Cisse ahead of him…
