Tenerife have confirmed the tragic news that Jesus de Miguel has died aged 30 following a collision in a game on Monday night.

The harrowing incident occurred in the closing stages of the game when De Miguel ran onto a long ball up the pitch. Just as he looked to bring it down, he was taken out by the flying knee of Jesus Owono, who was sent off for the challenge.

The 30-year-old lay motionless on the pitch for a few seconds before the players soon realised the severity of the situation and demanded medical treatment.

De Miguel was rushed to hospital, where it was confirmed in the early hours that his neurological condition was worsening, with the Spanish side confirming his death hours later.

They said: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.

Opponents on the day, Andorra, later issued a statement of their own to social media. That read: "There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. De Miguel has been at Tenerife since the start of last season and helped them secure promotion to the Spanish second tier with 11 goals in 29 games.

He has only appeared as a substitute this season with just 81 minutes to his name from 11 fixtures. Monday was set to be his longest cameo after coming on in the 59th minute with his team 2-0 up.

Andorra fought back, however, and scored twice in quick succession with a player from each team also sent off in the closing stages. Owono was the third player dismissed with that incident seeing the match abandoned deep into added time.
