The agent of a Manchester United star has threatened to move his client away from the club unless his playing time improves. United have started the season in dreadful fashion, winning just two of the first 11 matches across all competitions. It’s led to suggestions that Michael Carrick could be sacked just months after being appointed permanently. Meanwhile, the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes have both been outspoken towards part of the club’s decision-making. But it’s a player who isn’t currently making the first team being spoken about now.
That’s because the agent of Diego Leon has suggested that he could be asking for a move away. The 19-year-old hasn’t been involved in a senior squad for United all season, despite the Red Devils suffering problems at left-back.
United had been targeting Lewis Hall during the summer transfer window, but a move for the Newcastle man didn’t transpire. Since then, first-choice Luke Shaw has suffered with injuries, with Leny Yoro and Diogo Dalot having deputised on the left.
On his client’s situation, Renato Bittar said: “If there isn’t a plan to break into the first team between December and January, we’ll look for a way out for him. A loan somewhere where he can compete, get playing time, and return to Manchester.
“The Championship is an option, as are other European leagues, but we don’t want to leave here. He’s performing well with the U21 team, he’s training well, and his physical condition is excellent.”
Leon’s fortunes could be turned around if there is a change in the managerial department, given the pressure that is building on Michael Carrick. United have won two of their first 11 matches across all competitions, with suggestions a sacking could be just around the corner.
Despite the noise, Carrick is confident he is the right man for the job. Speaking ahead of the Bournemouth match, he said: "We have spoken, always conversations going on. A reaction [needed] from me.
"Our responsibility is to lead. I will hold that umbrella for me to get wet, and everyone stays dry. 100 per cent, I can turn it around. It hurts an awful lot, but it doesn't stop me. We want more. It feels like it can be a long way away but it doesn't take much to flip that.”
Adding: "We have a very tough game on Sunday. It does not become an easy game. If you don't [feel like me] this isn't the right place for you."
