Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel has died aged 30. The Spanish footballer was pronounced dead on Tuesday after being hospitalised following a collison with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a second division fixture.
De Miguel was rushed to hospital, where it was confirmed in the early hours that his neurological condition was worsening, with the Spanish side confirming his death hours later. In a post to social media, Tenerife wrote: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.
"There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome.
"The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments."
Andorra offered their condolences to those associated with De Miguel. In a tweet, they said: "With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife. "Rest in peace."
There was an outpouring of grief and support for Di Miguel's family, friends, teammates and Tenerife. Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was among those to reply to their tweet.
CD Badajoz, who Tenerife were due to play next in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, tweeted: "From CD Badajoz, we wish to express our regret over the passing of the footballer Jesús de Miguel Alameda. We would like to extend to @CDTOficial and to his entire family and loved ones our most sincere condolences and support during these very difficult times. A strong hug."
Reports in Spain claimed that he had suffered a cardiac arrest but was resucitated before being rushed to a nearby hospital and placed in an intensive care unit. The collison occurred in the centre-circle of the Andorra half after a ball was hoisted for Di Miguel looked to latch onto the ball but was taken out by a high challenge from Owono, who was sent off for the challenge.
The game was abandoned after the horrowing injury, with the scoreline 2-2.
