‘He Was Cussing At The Camera’ — Russell Wilson Picks Up on Patrick Mahomes’ Very Visible Frustration In SNF Loss to Seahawks

Patrick Mahomes rarely shows his frustration as openly as he did during the Kansas City Chiefs’ 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. With the Chiefs’ passing game struggling and Xavier Worthy failing to make a crucial catch, Mahomes’ reaction was caught on camera.

Former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson took note of that and suggested a solution to the Chiefs’ offensive struggles.

Russell Wilson Sees Chiefs as Ideal Landing Spot for Garrett Wilson

Speaking on the “Set Hut” show, the 10-time Pro Bowler argued that New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson and the Chiefs would be an ideal match, suggesting the wide receiver should push for a move to Kansas City.

“We’re talking about trades, advice for Garrett Wilson,” Wilson said. “Listen to me. I mentioned it last week; I’m gonna say it again: If I’m Garrett Wilson, where do I wanna go? I’m going to the Kansas City Chiefs.”

“The Chiefs, I’m knocking on the door ’cause I need a deep threat, I need a playmaker. I need a receiver,” he added.

“As you saw on Sunday Night Football, they were struggling at the Seahawks, everybody was dropping the ball, Patrick Mahomes was frustrated. You don’t see Patrick Mahomes getting frustrated too often. He was cussing at the camera. They need a big-time receiver, and Garrett Wilson is that guy.”

Wilson’s own situation has also attracted attention. The Jets wide receiver’s frustration appeared to boil over during New York’s Week 7 loss to the previously winless Miami Dolphins, when cameras caught him yelling toward quarterback Geno Smith on the sideline.

Wilson has managed just six receptions for 70 yards on nine targets over his last two games as the Jets’ offense continues to struggle. Despite the recent dip, he has recorded 444 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 37 receptions this season, which ranks him 15th in PFN WR Impact Score with a grade of 81.0 through seven weeks.

Since the Jets selected him with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Garrett Wilson has established himself as one of the league’s most productive young receivers. He recorded three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons before a knee sprain limited him to seven games in 2025.

The Jets exercised his fifth-year option in 2025 before signing the former Ohio State standout to a four-year, $130 million contract extension. That commitment would complicate any potential trade, and New York has not indicated it intends to move on from its star receiver.

Kansas City, meanwhile, has been dealing with significant injuries at wide receiver. Rashee Rice has been sidelined by a right hamstring injury, while Tyquan Thornton landed on injured reserve after dislocating his left ankle and tearing ligaments in Week 4.

The injuries have elevated third-year receiver Worthy to the fore, and the former Texas Longhorns standout has struggled to establish himself as a playmaker, leading to Mahomes’ frustrations boiling over against the Seahawks.

While running back Kenneth Walker III has rejuvenated the Chiefs’ running game, the lack of a genuine deep threat has limited the Chiefs and kept them on the periphery of the Super Bowl conversation.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed during Monday’s segment of the “Pat McAfee” show that the Chiefs are shopping for a new wide receiver.

“They have been calling around, and I don’t think it would be a surprise to see them continue to attempt to add a wide receiver before the trade deadline,” Schefter said.

Although Schefter did not specifically identify the Jets receiver, Super Bowl XLVIII champion Wilson floated him as the type of playmaker the Chiefs could use.
