It hasn’t been an easy ride for Tyler Dibling at Everton, but Tony Grant is predicting big things for the youngster.

Tyler Dibling is now in his second season at Hill Dickinson Stadium, following a £40 million transfer from Southampton in the summer of 2025.

His first term was rather underwhelming in terms of opportunities and minutes, with David Moyes much preferring to lean on more experienced players.

Fans had hoped to see him kick on in 2026/27. But barring a couple of showings, it hasn’t really happened yet.

He has at least started Everton’s three Carabao Cup games though, so hopefully more opportunities await him in the Premier League.

For Tony Grant though, the future is certainly bright.

Tony Grant insists Tyler Dibling is going to the very top

Grant made an appearance on True Blue Everton to discuss all things Everton, and made the prediction that Dibling, even with his slow start for the Toffees, is going to go ‘to the top’.

He said: “I’ll be honest with you, every time I watch Dibling – second-half I thought he should have come off earlier, is what I thought, in the first game – but I thought he looks a player. The kid runs and handles the ball like a top player.

“He’s nowhere near there yet. But is he going to surprise me if he gets his head down, is he going to surprise me that he can go right to the top? No. He’s got the makings of a fantastic footballer, I really do (think that). If we can get him one-vs-one, I’ve been crying out to get two wingers, out-and-out wingers. At times I thought it was quite fluent (against Newcastle).

Dibling has yet to score for Everton, but managed to assist for the first time against Wolves in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Opening his account is sure to provide a huge confidence boost and hopefully that can happen as soon as possible.

Whether he gets the chance to start against Newcastle again tonight, though, feels somewhat doubtful, as he didn’t shine as brightly as he did against Wolves and Ipswich Town.

Grant went on to argue that tonight’s game might not suit Dibling as it’s at St. James’ Park and the game could have an extra edge to it.

Leon Osman made a similar point about Dibling last week, when he suggested that Dibling might be more suited to home games at the moment, so that he can feel that support for him, rather than being in a cauldron
