Derek McInnes is just shooting Rangers in the foot
Derek McInnes shoots Rangers

We all remember how badly the season started under Derek McInnes as he began shooting Rangers in the foot. Diabolical management, terrible results. Unfortunately, the former Hearts manager has reverted to exactly the same management for two of the last three matches. Rangers have crumbled to pieces.

It was patently obvious that Rangers were going to be up against it at Hearts. Ibrox Noise warned about the threat that Wouter Vrancken’s side would pose, especially with a claustrophobic home crowd. So what did Derek McInnes do? He picked a terrible lineup and made two absolutely baffling choices in the team. Just like at Dundee, when he did something similar, Rangers have paid the price.

Rangers’ Title Challenge Under Threat from McInnes Foot Shooting

At this point, we would say that Rangers are hanging on the title chase by their fingernails. Derek McInnes shooting Rangers in the foot is not helping. The fact that Celtic also drew last night was the biggest get out of jail card McInnes could have received. But his management must now come seriously under question. Two of the last three matches have seen fundamental, elementary and stupid errors from our boss.

Of course, as we know, against Dundee he inexplicably played Ryan Naderi as the target man up front. He started Bouanani on the right with Min-su Kim in the middle. There was no place for Kevin Kelsy in this dynamic. It did not work for Rangers at all. By the time McInnes changed this setup, it was already too late. Dundee had pretty much secured the point, although they could have had more.

McInnes Makes Another Baffling Selection Shooting Rangers

Whilst St Johnstone saw a much better performance and a much better selection, McInnes then decided to experiment again. Apparently, Hearts was the right place for another stupid, ridiculous and inexplicable experiment. He dropped Bouanani, who had been Rangers’ most potent attacker outside of Kelsy and Naderi. Instead, he restored Djeidi Gassama to the team for unknown reasons. This dynamic completely and utterly wrecked the team. Hearts were all over Rangers from the first whistle.

There is also the topic of Emmanuel Fernandez, which we will get to in a separate entry. That one is causing a lot of pain and consternation around all things Rangers.

Rangers Manager McInnes Repeats Old Mistakes in the Foot

But the fact remains that McInnes has reverted to the incompetent, moronic management we saw in his first four or five fixtures. For some unknown reason, just like all his predecessors, Derek McInnes enjoys hijacking what works. He frequently refuses to start his best team and then tries to repair the errors he has made.

We cannot understand why every single Rangers manager does this every single time. Walter Smith was the only manager who could pick strange teams and still get the best out of absolutely everyone. He could get away with it. Every manager since him has hijacked his own good management. They produce something effective, such as against St Johnstone, before arbitrarily wrecking what worked.

Celtic Hand McInnes an Undeserved Reprieve Shooting themselves in the Foot too

It is inexplicable and it is unforgivable. The fact that Celtic themselves only got a point at Parkhead has given McInnes a complete reprieve. It is one he does not deserve.

This is twice in the last three matches that Derek McInnes has inexplicably done stupid things and been shooting Rangers in the foot. He has changed players and systems when everything was previously working just fine. It is almost infuriating to look at how badly he has performed over the past few weeks.

Put simply, is McInnes the wrong man to manage Rangers? Well, we could not even tell you that at this point.

But what we will say is that he is his own worst enemy.
