Especially after missing seven games last season due to injury, Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin’s torn patellar tendon was a devastating injury. He will be out for the rest of the year, finishing the season with just 230 receiving yards and one touchdown.

While losing the rest of this season due to injury is incredibly difficult for him, McLaurin has leaned into his faith to help him during this difficult time.

“I tore my patellar tendon. Three years ago, this would have devastated my life because of where I ranked football in my life, what value I felt like I gained from that, what purpose I felt like it brought for me,” McLaurin said. “It’s very clear: Him, Jesus dying on the cross and being raised from the dead, is all the promise that we need to know that He is a man of his word, and we can trust him in that. That is the only thing that you need. At the same time, he also provides His word that is truly food for our spirit allows us to be able to deal with the struggles of this life that we’re all going through.”

During his weekly appearance on the “Sports Junkies” on 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C., GM Adam Peters confirmed that McLaurin underwent surgery on Friday.

Based on how long it typically takes to recover from this injury, McLaurin could miss part of the 2027 season, though it would most likely be only a few games. He could also be released, given he is currently set to have a $34 million cap hit next season. Therefore, it is also possible this injury may have ended his career. McLaurin has consistently remained the Commanders’ most popular player since arriving in Washington in 2019.
