Eagles fall to 2-6 after Commanders score 27 unanswered in Week 8

The Philadelphia Eagles' losing streak reached six games Sunday night after a promising first quarter gave way to another disappointing offensive performance in a 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium.

Philadelphia built a 10-0 lead behind a Jake Elliott field goal and Saquon Barkley's 5-yard touchdown run, but Washington scored the final 27 points to improve to 2-4-1 and move ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East standings. Philadelphia dropped to 2-6, its worst start through eight games since 1999, and suffered its sixth consecutive defeat for the first time since 2012.

Tanner McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards with an interception, but he was sacked five times and lost a fumble as the Eagles struggled to establish any offensive rhythm after the opening quarter. Philadelphia finished with 268 total yards, converted five of 15 third-down attempts and committed two turnovers.

Eagles waste early opportunity against Washington

Philadelphia appeared to have the momentum after an impressive defensive play from Andrew Mukuba helped create its only touchdown. The second-year safety forced a fumble by Washington tight end Chig Okonkwo, and Zack Baun recovered it, setting up a short touchdown drive capped by Barkley's Wildcat run.

However, the Eagles failed to capitalize on their early advantage. Washington responded with an 11-play, 89-yard touchdown drive that ended with Jayden Daniels finding Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard score. Drew Stevens added a field goal just before halftime to give the Commanders a 13-10 lead.

Philadelphia never recovered.

Washington extended its advantage with another Stevens field goal following McKee's third-quarter fumble. The Eagles later moved into scoring position during a lengthy fourth-quarter possession, but an illegal formation penalty on Jordan Mailata wiped out a successful field goal before Elliott missed the ensuing attempt.

The Commanders added another field goal and sealed the victory after Rasul Douglas intercepted McKee late in the fourth quarter. Rachaad White finished a short touchdown drive, and Washington converted a two-point attempt to complete the scoring.

Eagles offense goes scoreless over final three quarters

The Eagles struggled to establish their running game, finishing with 91 yards on 29 carries. Barkley managed just 30 yards on 13 attempts, while Elijah Mitchell added 34 yards on 11 carries.

Rookie receiver Makai Lemon led Philadelphia with six receptions for 57 yards, while tight end Eli Stowers contributed three catches for 53 yards. Their production provided some encouraging individual performances, but the offense failed to generate consistent scoring opportunities.

Defensively, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. recorded a team-high 10 tackles, while Mukuba finished with nine tackles and a forced fumble. Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith Jr. each recorded a sack, but Washington gained 339 total yards and repeatedly controlled the line of scrimmage.

The Eagles return home to face the New York Giants in Week 9 before their scheduled bye. With their losing streak reaching six and their playoff hopes fading, Philadelphia faces mounting pressure to improve before the season slips further out of reach.
