The new era under Michael Malone continues to grow more and more impressive.
North Carolina has landed its first 5-star commitment in the class of 2027, as Demarcus Henry has officially committed to North Carolina. The 5-star prospect chose North Carolina over Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisville in what was one of the most impressive recruitments I've seen in a long time.
There's a strong argument that Henry is the best player in the class of 2027, with other recruits like CJ Rosser and Beckham Black batting in the same ballpark. While the commitment from Demarcus Henry is obviously valuable in itself, it also has the potential to bring more good news to Chapel Hill.
It's no secret that highly touted recruits tend to like playing with other highly touted recruits. That certainly seems to be the case for 5-star power forward CJ Rosser, who again has a case to be the best player in the class.
Rosser has been on Michael Malone's radar for quite some time, and some indications have pointed to Carolina as his potential landing spot. However, Rosser seems to be moving a bit slower than other recruits, and it's led many Carolina fans to ask why. The commitment from Demarcus Henry, however, may speed things up, as it could be very enticing for Rosser to play alongside another potential star in Chapel Hill.
It may take some time to see any movement in Rosser's decision ultimately, and cit ould be well into the new year before North Carolina lands a commitment. Regardless, the Rocky Mount native is seemingly trending toward North Carolina, and the commitment from Henry should serve as another reason to come to Chapel Hill.
A duo of Rosser and Henry would potentially be among the best in college basketball next season and would immediately put Carolina at the top of the leaderboards in the class of 2027. If Michael Malone can indeed pull that off, it will be a very impressive feat in his first recruiting cycle as the head coach.
In addition to Rosser, Jalen Davis is also a priority option for the Tar Heels at point guard. Any combination of Henry, Rosser, and Davis would be a phenomenal cycle for Malone and Co.
It's a new era in Chapel Hill under Michael Malone, and Demarcus Henry's commitment serves as a very real starting point in what is shaping up to be a very exciting recruiting cycle for the Tar Heels.
