Harry Kane claimed the Ballon d'Or for the first time in his career
Harry Kane claimed the Ballon d'Or, ending a 25-year wait for an English winner, as the Bayern Munich ace saw off Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal.
The former Tottenham striker was able to claim the award in his hometown with London hosting the event. This was the most competitive Ballon d'Or race in years and that was summed up by the quality of the top ten.
Mbappe would finish second as his wait for a Ballon d'Or goes on despite a stellar year with Real Madrid and France. World Cup winner Lamine Yamal was in third.
The 2024 winner Rodri was fourth, beating Lionel Messi, who may well be appearing for the final time. PSG duo Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele were sixth and seventh.
Erling Haaland's exploits had him in eighth whilst Kane's Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who was actually voted the best player in Germany last season, was ninth.

Fabian Ruiz was the only player to win the Champions League and the World Cup last season, but the Spanish midfielder finished tenth.
Jude Bellingham top scored for England at the World Cup, bagging seven goals, but the Real midfielder narrowly missed out on the top 10, perhaps owing to Los Blancos going trophyless domestically.
English viewers may have felt Declan Rice's 15th spot was harsh given his season, which had him in the hunt for individual accolades. He was one place ahead of World Cup final scorer Ferran Torres, and one spot behind Vitinha, the heartbeat of PSG.
Back in 2024 Vinicius Jnr was the man vying against Rodri for the Golden Ball, with his snub infamously seeing the whole Real contingent boycott the award. Two years on and the Brazilian was named 17th.
Last year's winner Ousmane Dembele finished in sixth
Gabriel, who was integral to Arsenal's league triumph, but missed the decisive penalty in the European Cup final, was 21st. Two of PSG's Champions League-winning contingent in Nuno Mendes and Marquinhos ended in 23rd and 25th respectively.
Bruno Fernandes, who was named the PFA Player of the Year, was only good enough for 27th, with more recent form potentially counting against him. Arsenal's William Saliba was joint 29th with his injury in the World Cup semi-final potentially costing the Frenchman.
