Cole Palmer got a red card last weekend against Spurs which destroyed any Chelsea hope of a comeback in that game.
It was a silly few minutes from the attacker, who showed real petulance and indiscipline in both incidents.
“We have spoken, yes, about the game, about things that we can improve, for himself, but that’s what we always do,” Alonso said.
“I don’t know how many red cards he’s had. It’s the first one? So we don’t want that to be repeated. For him, himself, he’s the first one [to understand he made a mistake]. So we’ve been talking more about football, about what we need, because Cole is smart, he loves the game, he loves enjoying it, and that’s the main topic that we’ve been talking about.”
Palmer is going to be needed more than ever tomorrow, with the team now missing multiple first team starters. With no Joao Pedro in attack, the others need to score more. That includes Cole. It’s the perfect chance for him to make up for his misdeeds.
Maxence Lacroix won’t feature in tomorrow’s game, or any others for around a month after Alonso confirmed his hamstring injury.
Emi Martinez is racing to be fit as soon as possible after breaking his jaw – but he won’t be ready for tomorrow.
Xabi Alonso’s comments about the importance of the Carabao Cup have not been well received by Chelsea fans.
