The record books will remember Angel Reese making WNBA Finals history, but the fans will remember her leaving the court with her mom. For Angel Reese, being the first player in WNBA Finals History to total 100+ points and 50+ rebounds in a single Finals series was not enough to get that elusive first title for the Atlanta Dream. More than the game, the talking point among the fans became Reese’s reaction after the loss.

As the final buzzer of the 2026 WNBA season came, the Golden State Valkyries and Chase Center erupted in celebration. But for the Dream, it was heartbreak once again, as they lost Game 7, 68-63. Angel Reese caught the eyes of several fans as she left the court with her mother by her side, per a video posted to X by B/R W Sports.

Golden State held Atlanta scoreless for the game’s first six minutes until Angel Reese’s layup at the 4:07 mark sparked a massive run that got the Dream back in the game. Atlanta then controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Valkyries 18-10.

Atlanta’s defense was suffocating during this frame, holding Golden State scoreless for over five minutes and allowing the Dream to carry a 30-24 advantage into halftime. Reese finished the game with eight points and 12 rebounds.

The sheer scope of Reese’s postseason debut was nothing short of extraordinary. Across six statistical categories, she set new benchmarks: claiming the all-time high for rebounds, steals, and blocks by any player in a debut playoff run, while simultaneously setting the mark for centers in points, assists, and three-pointers.

As Reese marked an end to this closely fought series, fans wasted no time in reacting as cameras caught Reese leaving the court with her mom.

Angel Reese’s Walk Off With Mom Draws Instant Reactions From The Fans

It’s always moments like these when you want your family beside you. It was certainly a proud moment for Reese’s mom to see her daughter reach the biggest stage in women’s basketball.

“❤️❤️ Two amazing angels! Angel Reese made it through so much, and God is still not done blessing her yet ❤️,” one fan wrote.

“Win or lose, Mom’s always gonna be there ❤️,” another fan wrote.

“She’ll be back!!!????????????❤️❤️❤️ DPOY,” one fan wrote in the comments on a post by brwsports.

Indeed, it has been a remarkable season for Reese. She set the WNBA single-game rebounding record with 26 rebounds against the Los Angeles Sparks in August. Reese became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds, accomplishing the feat in 79 games.

This meant that Reese was named the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, earning 46 out of 74 votes from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

“I’m a Valks fan, but congrats to Angel on a truly AMAZING playoff and finals run! H***, an amazing season. DPOY in year 3 is crazy. She will be back, and hopefully it’s not against my team so I can root for her,” one fan wrote.

“She played her heart out in every game. Much respect, and this is coming from a Valks fan. Every game, these two teams played like it was their last. I have nothing but love and respect for my team, the Valkyries and The Dream, for giving us 7 of the best games any fan can ever ask for. They left it all on the court. Best Finals EVER. PERIOD,” another fan said.

Reese finished the WNBA Finals averaging 14.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, per StatMuse. In Game 2 of the Finals, Reese finished with 30 points and 16 rebounds, becoming the youngest player with 30+ points and 15+ rebounds in a Finals Game.

Reese averaged 16.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game throughout the postseason. She was a steady, imposing force in the opening round, putting up 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds a game to push Atlanta past Washington. But in the semifinals, she was on another level entirely.

Controlling the game on both ends of the floor, Reese finished with 20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game, fueling the Dream to a dominant sweep over the New York Liberty.

“Remember this moment when my girl comes back to win the Chip next year!,” one fan wrote.

With a squad full of young stars, including Reese, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to suggest that Reese and Co. will make another run to the WNBA Finals next season as well.
