There are 10 Paris Saint-Germain players nominated for the men’s award, but Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Marquinhos may yet attend as they are injured
Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 match against Lyon at the Parc des Princes has been moved from Sunday to Monday due to security concerns ahead of more protests in the French capital this weekend.
It means rescheduled match will now clash with the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday evening, with several PSG players – including last year’s winner Ousmane Dembele – nominated for the award.
French authorities are preparing for a huge security operation on Saturday with as many as 70,000 officers set to be deployed in response to the unrest that has swept through the country in recent weeks.
Champions League holders PSG were due to host Lyon in Paris on Sunday evening but Ligue 1 confirmed the match had been pushed back to Monday – with an 8:30pm kick-off time.
Paris is also hosting its first NFL game on Sunday afternoon, with the match between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France expected to go ahead as planned but requiring further police deployment.
PSG have 10 players nominated for the men’s award: Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Willian Pacho, Fabian Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Vitinha.
Warren Zaire-Emery is also nominated for the men’s young talent of the year award, Matvey Safonov is shortlisted for the goalkeeper award, and Luis Enrique is up for men’s coach of the year.
Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and PSG captain Marquinhos may still be able to attend the London ceremony, however, as they are currently sidelined with injuries. PSG confirmed Kvaratskhelia ruptured his ACL in the win over Barcelona in midweek.
