SportWitness are today reporting on Chelsea interest in Nico Paz.
The Como attacker has risen to prominence over the last 18 months and capped that off by scoring two against Man U in the Champions League last night.
Chelsea scouts are watching him “game after game” and have been impressed by his physical development. At this rate, the £76m buy back clause that Real Madrid have on their academy player is starting to look cheap.
It’s totally believable that Chelsea are looking at Paz – most of the clubs in Europe probably are. But right now it’s hard to see where he fits. We’ve got a really dynamic front three already in place and youngsters like Estevao and Geovany Quenda who can’t get a look in.
Next season we will hopefully have European football back and there will be more depth needed, but at that point we will likely have just spent £100m on a midfielder, and Paz could be on his way elsewhere. There won’t be many players in higher demand come next summer.
Alex Scott is widely understood to be Chelsea’s next big target, but the midfielder’s boss still thinks he can get him to sign a new contract.
Mike Penders is preparing for his first Premier League start for Chelsea – you’d worry he’s nervous, but he doesn’t seem the type.
Estevao has a bright future, everyone can see that. There’s less certainly about where he will be spending it.
