Rookie Cameron Boozer recorded a triple-double Thursday to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a win over the Portland Trail Blazers and improve to 5-0 on the season.
Boozer produced 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in the 124-103 victory on the road at the Moda Center. He shot 6-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range, and finished a plus-20 in 28 minutes of action on the court.
The fourth overall pick became just the second-youngest player in history to record a triple-double (19 years, 103 days), trailing only Josh Giddey. He is the fourth rookie in franchise history to do so, and the first since Jamhai Mashack last year.
"It is nice. I'm going to keep going," Boozer told Rob Fischer of DAZN after the game. "The season just started; we got what, 77 more? So, a lot more to come."
Boozer is averaging 15.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists while shooting 34.4% from beyond the arc in five appearances with the Grizzlies. He leads the rookie class with three double-doubles and is fourth in scoring among all first-year players.
The 6-foot-8 forward is playing an integral role for coach Tuomas Iisalo to start the season. He has showcased his relentless attack on offense early on, while also knowing when to act as a hub, move the ball around, and get his teammates involved.
Behind the effort of Boozer and the rest of the group, the Grizzlies are 5-0 for the first time since 2015 after sweeping their four-game road trip. He is pleased with how the team has performed and is eager to keep it going Saturday against Sacramento.
"It is a great feeling," Boozer said. "Obviously, last year was rough. I wasn't here but to start the season 5-0, it is a lot of fun. ... (We want to) keep competing and just keep winning games and give our fans something to root for."
