Chelsea must resist the temptation to loan out Estevao Willian in the January transfer window. The Brazilian has struggled to break into Xabi Alonso’s preferred front three and has not started a Premier League game this season.
Estevao has even fallen behind Geovany Quenda in the pecking order, raising questions about his role at Stamford Bridge. According to transfer reporter Ekrem Konur, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing him on loan to strengthen their attack.
🚨#PSG PSG have identified Chelsea wonderkid Estevão as one of their priority targets for the January transfer window. ✅ Luis Enrique is said to be a strong admirer of the player, with sporting advisor Luis Campos also backing a potential move. 📈 Campos believes Estevão’s development could benefit from a short-term spell in France before taking the next step in his career. ⏳ While no concrete agreement is in place yet, PSG continue to monitor the Brazilian sensation closely.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has had knee surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season, while Ousmane Dembele’s fitness has also been a concern. A move to Paris could give Estevao more minutes and the chance to compete for Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
However, Chelsea would be foolish to sanction his January departure. Here are four reasons they must keep him at Stamford Bridge rather than loan him to PSG or any other club.

Chelsea will play at least 10 games across January and February, including nine Premier League fixtures and the FA Cup third round. That total could rise to 13 if they progress in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup, leaving Xabi Alonso with a demanding schedule and a greater need to rotate his squad.
Estevao could play an important role during that period, providing fresh legs and creativity while letting Chelsea’s first-choice attackers rest. The 19-year-old may not be ready to start every week, but keeping him would give Alonso another valuable option as the Winter fixtures pile up.
Cole Palmer struggled with groin injuries last season, highlighting the need for reliable alternatives in Chelsea’s front three. Xabi Alonso has mainly used a 3-4-2-1 system this season, with Palmer and Morgan Rogers operating as the two No. 10s behind Joao Pedro.
Estevao could provide cover on the right of the attacking midfield, stepping in for Palmer when needed. He could also play alongside the England international if Rogers is unavailable, allowing Palmer to move into the left-sided No. 10 role.

At just 19, Estevao needs regular minutes to keep developing, but Chelsea must also protect his long-term fitness. Two hamstring injuries last season showed why the Blues need to manage his workload carefully.
Xabi Alonso can gradually increase his minutes without rushing him into playing 90 minutes every week. Paris Saint-Germain might offer him more game time, but if he stays in West London, Chelsea can oversee the Brazilian wonderkid’s development and manage his fitness.
A loan move to PSG could give Estevao regular football and make him question his future at Chelsea. Instead, the Blues must show him he is valued and can fulfil his potential at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea should offer him a clear development plan, meaningful minutes and a long-term contract that reflects his importance. They cannot guarantee he will never want to leave, but they can show him and potential suitors that they have no plans to let him go.
