Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena could easily have finished with more goals, were it not for the two goalkeepers.
Early in the second half, Bruno Guimaraes thought he’d given Arsenal the lead with a header, only for Manuel Neuer to keep it out with a superb save. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the game, the Brazilian admitted he couldn’t believe it.
“When I had the ball, I was already celebrating because I thought it was in. And he made an unbelievable save,” he said. “For me, he’s one of the best keepers in the world, and he’s a legend in the game. And when I finished the game, I came to him and said, ‘How did you save this?’ And he said, ‘I don’t know as well.’”

Arsenal claim a point away to Bayern! What is your reaction to that performance? 🤔
Arsenal had their own hero between the posts, though, and Bruno was just as quick to praise him.
When asked about David Raya’s contribution on Wednesday night, Bruno said: “Yeah, unbelievable keeper. He’s so good. Of course, we are so happy to have him.”
Raya produced one of the best saves of the night, clawing away a close-range header from Alphonso Davies. Bayern created plenty of chances, and without him Arsenal could easily have left Munich with nothing.
There was little to separate the two goalkeepers on the night. Raya made three saves and prevented 0.20 goals, while Neuer also made three saves and prevented 0.34.
Raya has kept seven clean sheets in 11 games in all competitions this season, and only last weekend he made a crucial near-post save from Dan Ndoye in the 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest. Gary Lineker even credited him for Arsenal’s run of 1-0 wins, pointing to “how good the goalkeeper is” as a big reason they keep grinding out results.
The Arsenal goalkeeper has won the Premier League Golden Glove for the last three seasons, and is looking to become the first stopper to win it four seasons in a row. His next chance to add to his clean sheet tally is on Saturday, when Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates.
