Napoli suffered another costly loss against Porto in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, complicating their path to qualification. They have been defeated in half of their matches so far this season.

Director Giovanni Manna confirmed that they’ll be busy in January but not necessarily in every position, talking to Sky.

“The only role where we are set is the attack. Our reflections are constant. We are surely working to do something, but we’ll see where we will be then. We’ll do what needs to be done, but always respecting our parameters.”

According to Radio Kiss Kiss, Napoli are setting up a profound overhaul after doing the bare minimum in the summer. They are plotting four acquisitions and four exits. They have too many wingers and too many center-backs, while they are short-handed in the midfield.

Massimiliano Allegri considers Kevin De Bruyne a ‘regista’ and wants to add physicality, as Frank Anguissa and Scott McTominay no longer suffice. If they execute their plan, it could lead to the departure of Stanislav Lobotka, who would no longer be central. They could bring in up to three new players in the role, possibly two youngsters. Then, they’ll try to replicate the same model at the end of the season.

Our Take on Napoli

They surely have to do something significant, as their season is starting to go down the drain already. They might be the first team to buck the trend if the rumored strategy sees the light of day, massively changing the squad rather than the coach. Their flaws were evident in the summer already, when they were bafflingly quiet, and then a slew of injuries exacerbated them. Doing business in January generally comes at a higher cost.
