AT the beginning of October five Pirates were included in the All Stars squad for the Essex League Men’s Over 75s Cup Final day. The first section was played on a league format with each team playing the other four. All Stars started well defeating Eastwood Falcons 1-0, after which came a string of 0-0 draws with Little Oakley, Chelmsford City and Billericay Town.
However, other results meant that All Stars qualified for the final with 6 points, where their opponents were Little Oakley who were crowned League champions the previous month. In a close encounter, All Stars held them to 0-0 at full time, so the Cup was to be decided on penalties. All Stars managed to retain their composure to triumph 3-2 and thus lift the Cup, a great result as the only time that the whole team played together was in the league and cup matches.
Back in the League, the Men’s Over 60s Pirates team played their final round of matches. They were undefeated with three wins on the day, which added to their four wins in September, meant that they finished the season with seven straight wins. Their last day saw convincing wins over Eastwood Falcons Blue 2-0, Stones Athletic 5-0 and Billericay Town White 4-1. This meant that Pirates finished the season in second place, just one point ahead of the third team, and are promoted to Division One for the 2027 season.
The Men’s Over 70s also played their final round of League matches, but did not enjoy the success of the Over 60s. Their first game against the eventual champions, Chelmsford City ended in a 0-4 defeat. Next up was Little Oakley who were held to a 1-1 draw, but their final match was a 0-1 defeat to Eastwood Falcons Yellow. Pirates did gain three points with a walkover of Cheshunt who were unable to field a team on the day. This resulted in Pirates staying in 6th place as they were before the day and means that they will be playing in Division One again next year.
