Wakefield Trinity signing and England star among Rugby League World Cup stat leaders

The group stages of the Rugby League World Cup are behind us now with the semi-finals looming large, so we’ve looked at which players across the tournament have impressed so far with a Wakefield Trinity recruit among those to stand out.

Of course, six of the ten teams in the men’s tournament are now on the way home and unfortunately, England are one of those nations despite winning two of their three games.

Brian McDermott’s side have been knocked out on points difference with Samoa progressing and securing a semi-final against Australia, whereas New Zealand will take on Tonga in the other final four clash.

Players from those four nations have obviously stood out but two English players lead the way in some of the stats this tournament, whilst Wakefield Trinity recruit Mason Teague, who represented the Cook Islands, is another stat leader after the group stages.

The England trio who all top the men’s competition in a stat are George Williams (most line engagements – 14), Max King (offloads – 9), and Harry Smith (most short drop-outs – 3), whilst new Wakefield recruit Teague tops the tackle charts with 108 – something that Trinity fans can look forward to in 2027 as he replaces Tyson Smoothy.

A number of other England players or faces familiar to Super League rank among the top three for a number of other stats, the main ones of which we have listed below.
